The scars you see are physical
And with the passage of time have healed.
Nothing more than marks on a woman
Who knows her fate has been sealed.
Never did she dream one day she'd find
Herself in this place -
With wounds she tries so hard to hide
With a desperate smile on her face.
She laments for the years gone by
And the girl she used to be.
The one who always walked through life
So happy, wild, and free.
She doesn't try to make excuses.
Doesn't attempt to place blame.
She's far too busy wallowing
In her misplaced guilt and shame.
Somewhere inside her troubled mind
Lurk the memories that taunt her soul.
Fragmenting her into little pieces
She aches so much to be whole.
Still, she has hope within her heart
That one day she'll be free.
No longer captive to the festering pain she's lived with so long
From the scars you do not see.
